I am a General Manager and Deputy Lab Director at Microsoft Research in Redmond, leading the LEAP (Language, Learning, Audio, Privacy) research area (five research groups), the Data Science team, the Central Engineering organization, and the Research Technology Engineering organization.
I am also an Affiliate Full Professor at the University of Washington. Recently, I led applied science for Cortana and I was chief scientist at Microsoft Health.
I am a Fellow of the ACM (Class of 2021). I am serving as Vice Chair of ACM SIGIR until 2025.
I am ACM Transactions on the Web editor-in-chief and an associate editor for Communications of the ACM.
